“Singling out individual inventors from patent data”

    Get PDF
An increasing number of studies in recent years have sought to identify individual inventors from patent data. A variety of heuristics have been proposed for using the names and other information disclosed in patent documents to establish “who is who” in patents. This paper contributes to this literature by describing a methodology for identifying inventors using patents applied to the European Patent Office (EPO hereafter). As in much of this literature, we basically follow a three-step procedure: (1) the parsing stage, aimed at reducing the noise in the inventor’s name and other fields of the patent; (2) the matching stage, where name matching algorithms are used to group similar names; and (3) the filtering stage, where additional information and various scoring schemes are used to filter out these similarly-named inventors. The paper presents the results obtained by using the algorithms with the set of European inventors applying to the EPO over a long period of time.“Names game”, patent data, unique inventors, name matching algorithms. This paper focus on the effects of rock music, not only regarded as a new cultural trait but also as a social movement, on the conservative society of those days. The purpose of the author is to make a statement about how the spread of rock ‘n’ roll music and its breakup as a mass movement, were responsible for permanent changes in contemporary society. These key elements will be analyzed within several methods of teaching history at schoo

The idea of > is a proposal prepared by the  International Peace Academy, in the period of the Cold War , as  alternative to the hegemonic idea > . Standards are needed to enable cooperation while promoting competition. Within the framework of a standard, the companies involved in the standardization process contribute and agree on appropriate technical specifications to ensure diversity and compatibility, and facilitate worldwide commercial deployment and evolution. Those parts of the system that can create competitive advantages are intentionally left open in the specifications. Such specifications are extensive, complex, and minimalistic. This makes telecommunication standards education a difficult endeavor, but it is much demanded by industry and governments to spur economic growth. This article describes a methodology for teaching wireless communications standards. We define our methodology around six learning stages that assimilate the standardization process and identify key learning objectives for each. Enabled by software-defined radio technology, we describe a practical learning environment that facilitates developing many of the needed technical and soft skills without the inherent difficulty and cost associated with radio frequency components and regulation. Using only open source software and commercial of-the-shelf computers, this environment is portable and can easily be recreated at other educational institutions and adapted to their educational needs and constraints. We discuss our and our students' experiences when employing the proposed methodology to 4G LTE standard education at Barcelona Tech.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Automated Discovery of porous molecular materials facilitated by characterization of molecular porosity

Porous materials are critical to many industrial sectors, including petrochemicals, energy and water. Traditional porous polymers and zeolites are currently most widely employed within membranes, as adsorbents for separations and storage, and as heterogeneous catalysts. The emerging advanced porous materials, e.g. extended framework materials and molecular porous materials, can boost performance and energy-efficiency of the current technologies because of the unprecedented level of control of their structure and function. The enormous possibilities for tuning these materials by changing their building blocks mean that, in principle, optimally performing materials for a variety of applications can be systematically designed. However, the process of finding a set of optimal structures for a given application could take decades using the traditional materials development approaches. These is a substantial payoff for developing tools and approaches that can accelerate this process. Among advanced porous materials, porous molecular materials are one of the most recent members though they have already attracted significant interest......Programa de Doctorado en Ciencia e Ingeniería de Materiales por la Universidad Carlos III de MadridPresidente: Germán Ignacio Sastre Navarro.- Secretario: Javier Carrasco Rodríguez.- Vocal: Andreas Mavrantonaki

As a workbench for testing the PID controller a mobile robot has been used. The path tracking problem of a mobile robot has been used as a workbench for testing the PID controller

Extremal cosmological black holes in Horndeski gravity and the anti-evaporation regime

    Get PDF
Producción CientíficaExtremal cosmological black holes are analysed in the framework of the most general second order scalar-tensor theory, the so-called Horndeski gravity. Such extremal black holes are a particular case of Schwarzschild-De Sitter black holes that arises when the black hole horizon and the cosmological one coincide. Such metric is induced by a particular value of the effective cosmological constant and is known as Nariai spacetime. The existence of this type of solutions is studied when considering the Horndeski Lagrangian and its stability is analysed, where the so-called anti-evaporation regime is studied. Contrary to other frameworks, the radius of the horizon remains stable for some cases of the Horndeski Lagrangian when considering perturbations at linear order.European Union’s Horizon 2020 (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) (action CA15117)Fundação para a Ciència e a Tecnologia (FCT) (grant number PD/BD/114435/2016
